to Japan
Although, of course, some guide books are not very good, when
it comes to the thorough, well researched, well thought-out
ones, it is generally a matter of personal taste and
individual experience whether the books give you what
you need or not. For that reason, we are not, as such,
recommending guide books: we are simply showing you
what is available. We have not used all of these guides
ourselves but we have researched what has had good reviews
on Amazon and narrowed down the search for you. When
you click on the "buy this now from Amazon"
link, you can read all the reviews of that book and
make up your own mind whether it will be useful to you.
If you are planning
a trip to Japan and you live in or near Manchester,
come to us and learn a bit of the language before you
go! It will enhance your trip no end. Click here

As briefly described on another page,
I had a fantastic
time in Japan when I went out there in 1999. As
a woman travelling around by myself, I felt completely
safe and I really appreciated the fact that the Japanese
people were friendly and helpful if I approached them
but otherwise left me alone (unlike in some countries,
where I have found a constant stream of social or financial
demands made on me). The public transport is breath-takingly
well organised and reliable, as is everything else,
really. Japan is a wonderful, exotic country that will
hugely repay all the investment you make in exploring
it.
