thought-provoking book, looking at the events of World
War II through the eyes of a mad dwarf. It may sound
odd but it works remarkably well.

of a Murderer
by Patrick Süskind A horror
story set in eighteenth century France, by a German
writer much acclaimed in his own country as well as
abroad. The protagonist has an unhappy childhood because
he "doesn't smell right" and grows up to murder
a lot of girls for their personal scent. (Just been
made into a film.)
