The School
JMJ is a small, energetic company
with a reputation for high-quality, personalised service.
Our clients range from blue-chip companies through smaller
companies to individuals and we give them all the tools and
confidence they need to communicate effectively in their chosen
language.
The company was established
in October 1997 by Georgina Kirk, who had recently come back
from teaching English and business skills in Milan and was
inspired to open her own school. She started from scratch,
teaching English to the Korean friend of a friend. JMJ's first
student recommended Georgie to her friends and soon a second
English teacher was needed to meet the demand. When a French
teacher joined them, Georgie rented offices in Didsbury and
the school proper was born.
Since then, JMJ has gone from strength to strength,
moving to bigger premises in July 2002.
The school is now in a spacious,
comfortable, converted duplex apartment on the corner of the
main road in Northenden, with three bright, cheerful classrooms
and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. It's about a minute from
the M56 and the M60 westbound, less than five minutes from
the M60 eastbound, and there is easy parking outside.
JMJ is a member of Greater Manchester Chamber
of Commerce.

The Teachers
Every teacher at JMJ is dedicated to the success
of each individual student. We are experienced teachers who
use a mixture of traditional and modern methods to make sure
everyone learning gets what he or she needs.
We are all native speakers of
the languages we teach and we believe in using the language
as much as possible in lessons. This way, the language becomes
what it should be - a means of communication - rather than
just something to be studied.
Although our lessons are well
planned and structured, the atmosphere is informal and supportive.
The emphasis is on building your confidence and encouraging
you to express yourself in your target language without worrying
if there are some words you don't yet know.
We love our job and are confident that you will
enjoy learning with us as much as we enjoy teaching you.
| "The
Mandarin course has been challenging in a different
way to any of my previous learnings… The tutor
manages to strike a great balance between a 'structured'
and practical approach to learning, whilst making the
lessons relaxed, informal and most important of all
- enjoyable."

of the best feelings in the world is making a successful
joke in a foreign language. The teacher's not laughing
at me or the way I expressed myself; she's laughing
at my joke!"

Meet the Director
Georgina Kirk
BA (Languages), MSc (Personnel Management & Industrial
Relations)
Hello! My name is Georgie and
I'm the owner/director of JMJ. I'm also one of the teachers.
Originally, I come from the south of England but I've lived
in Manchester for about 15 years and absolutely intend to
stay here, in what must be one of the coolest cities on earth!
I'm very lucky because I have
what I consider to be the perfect job. JMJ combines my twin
passionate interests: languages and communication skills.
I get huge satisfaction from both learning and teaching foreign
languages and I'm also fascinated by what makes communication
successful in any language, which is why I so much enjoy helping
people to create and deliver clear and effective presentations.
My first job was in London,
training corporate clients in the use of mainframe computers.
After that, I went to Milan for two years, which is where
I learnt how to teach English as a foreign language. Living
in Italy was a fantastic experience and I go back to visit
whenever I can.
JMJ keeps me pretty busy but
in my free time I love walking in the hills, going to the
theatre and cinema, reading and discussing books, swimming,
and exploring other countries whenever possible. I'm also
learning to juggle and am a keen amateur magician.
